The Pursuit of Energy Security

According to policymakers, a secure and reliable flow of energy is essential to growth and development in the United States, which is why energy security is a top priority for them. Although the U.S. is the largest producer of crude oil, we still rely heavily on imports from the global energy market to power a number of domestic functions including infrastructure, electricity, manufacturing, and so much more. Importing oil can be unreliable at times, especially when political conflict amongst other foreign powers impacts the global energy market. Policymakers have expressed various opinions about the best route to address their concerns, with some believing that increasing domestic oil drilling is the solution, and others pursuing forms of renewable energy. Leaders of both sides of the aisle, however, recognize that achieving energy security will help maintain stable access and affordability for American consumers.
