How prominent are the top presidential contenders in 2024?

Penta’s very own media analytics team analyzed the visibility of GOP presidential candidates compared to President Joe Biden’s prominence in the news between December 1, 2023, and February 16, 2024. Visibility measures how apparent a topic/person is within the overall news environment by assessing the total volume, influence, prominence, and reach of mentions.

Here’s what we found:

  • Between Dec. 1, 2023, and Feb. 16, 2024, President Joe Biden was the most prominent candidate within the media when compared to all the GOP candidates at the time, including frontrunner Donald Trump.
  • We see a peak in President Biden’s visibility on Jan 29. 2024, the day a drone strike killed three U.S. service members in Jordan
  • Upon winning the New Hampshire primary on Jan. 22, 2024, former President Donald Trump saw a notable jump in prominence, marking the peak in his visibility
  • When Presidential candidate Nikki Haley appeared on NBC News’s Meet the Press on Jan. 28, 2024, her visibility peaked
  • Former presidential hopeful Ron DeSantis was most visible across the media on the day he announced his decision to drop out of the race and endorse Trump.
  • Vivek Ramaswamy’s prominence was at its highest on the week of the fourth GOP presidential debate
