From droughts to floods to severe storms, the Golden State has weathered many unusual climate events in 2023, bringing the state’s environment front and center for California policymakers. The environment is a priority for more than a quarter of all California policy leaders, with 28 percent agreeing that the environment and climate are key issues. Notably, Democrats in the state place a higher emphasis on the environment – with more than 40 percent agreeing that the environment is a priority, compared with just 11 percent of Republicans.
